Spend the day hiking (or a quick 20 minute drive) to nearby town Citta Della Pieve from Panicale. There is a ~7 mile hike, that famous painter Pietro Vanucci (Perugino) used to take from town to town. Getting There from Panicale
Drive approximately 45–50 minutes via Castiglione del Lago and SR71. Park outside the historic
center and walk into town.
History/Why Visit:
Montepulciano traces its origins to Etruscan settlements and later flourished during the
Renaissance. Today it is world-famous for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and its beautifully
preserved hilltop architecture.
